Generational change in the Brazilian startup ecosystem

Context: Created by Google for Startups, the Black Founders Fund awards funding for Black-owned startups. Although only 10% of the population self-identifies as Black, racial pride is still in its early stages compared to other countries.

Challenge

The Black Founders Fund supports startups led by Black entrepreneurs. The challenge was to expand the visibility of selected entrepreneurs in Brazil and turn the announcement into an opportunity to amplify Black entrepreneurship.

OUR WORK

Based on individual interviews with the winners, we developed compelling stories about their dreams and big ideas. To help Google executives and partners communicate the key messages of the program, we developed a Message Guide that included text recommendations. We created content to portray the excitement of the winners, as well as social media posts, and a newsletter for the black entrepreneurs in the Google for Startups community. We secured individual interviews across various media outlets.

Impact

The initiative reached more than 85 million people through press and social media and generated 2,000 interactions on Google for Startups’ Instagram. Beyond showcasing the winners, the strategy positioned Black entrepreneurship as a topic of national relevance in Brazil.
